National Parks Week 2008

Introduction

The annual National Parks Week raises awareness of the UK’s 14 National Parks. This year it runs from 28 July to 3 August and the theme is local produce. Events are being organised by all the National Parks and for more information about what’s going on throughout the UK, please visit the Association of National Parks Authorities website

National Parks Week in the Cairngorms National Park

To celebrate this year’s National Parks Week, a Cairngorms National Park cooking competition has been arranged along with a special Cookathon and Fun Day, which will be held in the Square in Tomintoul on Saturday 2 August, from 12-6pm.

The ‘What’s Cooking in the Cairngorms National Park?’ competition invites people of all ages to create a mouth watering three-course menu that represents the UK’s largest National Park. The menu must be inspired by the Park’s huge choice of fantastic local produce. The competition is spilt into three age groups – under 12s, 13-18 and 19 and over. Chefs from around the Park will pick the best menu from each age group and cook them at the Cookathon and Fun Day in Tomintoul. The winning menu will then be chosen by a guest judge and featured at local restaurants within the Park!

The Cairngorms Farmers Market, an exhibition by Creative Cairngorms, games and local musicians will also be taking part in the Fun Day.

A number of local businesses and organisations in the Park have come together to arrange this event, including CairnGorm Mountain; the Clockhouse Restaurant, Tomintoul; The Crown Estate, Glenlivet, who kindly offered use of the Square; Coopers Tourmaster; Stagecoach and the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
