Outdoor Access
The Cairngorms National Park is a world renowned area where both residents and visitors can enjoy an unparalleled range of outdoor recreation opportunities. People are free to explore the mountains and glens, the forests and moorlands and the rivers and lochs of the Park. They can do so on foot, in a wheelchair, on horse-back, on a bicycle or even in a boat or canoe, as long as they do so in a responsible manner, with respect for other people and for the environment, and in accordance with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 places a number of duties on the Park Authority in relation to the managagement outdoor access. The Park Authority has a duty to uphold access rights in the Park, to plan a network of core paths and to set up a Local Outdoor Access Forum. The Park Authority also has a duty to promote the new Scottish Outdoor Access Code so that everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities. You can find out more about how the Park Authority will fulfil these duties by clicking on the links at the left hand side of the page.
