Guidance for Landscape Change

The sensitivity maps provide an indicator of areas in the Park where landscape character is more or less sensitive to a particular change and should be used as such. They are not a substitute for detailed assessment, on the ground survey and sensitive design of proposals.

We have looked at things likely to change the landscape character of the National Park over the coming years and have mapped the sensitivity of our landscapes to eight different changes.

On the sensitivity maps, each individual landscape area is coloured to indicate the degree of landscape sensitivity. There are no absolutes about this approach, but the darker the tone the more likely there are going to be landscape issues and challenges. See below the map for the relevant landscape opportunities and guidance.

These maps will vary over time as we monitor landscape change and take account of any cumulative effects. The settlements in the Park are not included in the mapping. View how we produced these maps here.
