How to get there

Park in the lay-by and walk round the back of the mound. The photo post is only a few metres from the carpark and is wheelchair accessible (the path is gently sloping and smooth, made of crushed rock, width approximately 1.25m).

More information on this location

This lay-by is part of the “Snow Road Scenic Route” and behind a low mound you will find a wonderful long seat from which to take in the atmosphere and the view.

This road was formerly a route for driving cattle to markets to the south and then a defensive position in WW2 (you can see the lines of anti-tank defences nearby). The bends themselves have now been ‘engineered’ out of the A93 much to the disappointment of classic car drivers.

With no settlement and sparse vegetation, the experience of this landscape is dominated by the landform and the weather. In driving rain, snow or mist the experience is very much of extremes, of a high and wild place where natural forces prevail.  Picture those poor cattle and the drovers coming through the pass in driving sleet!
