How to get there

Park at the visitor car park at the end of the public road and head towards the cluster of buildings called Spittal of Glen Muick. Here you will find the visitor centre. Take the track on the right signposted Lochnagar. The photo post is attached to the bridge over the river Muick a few hundred metres along the track.

Loch Muick fills a deep glacial trough and is surrounded by steep boulder-strewn slopes. At the western end of the loch in this dramatic setting sits Glas-allt Shiel house which was built by Queen Victoria.

There are many options for walking and exploring in glen Muick from serious hill walking and the Loch Muick circuit to gentle strolls.

The Spittal of Glen Muick visitor centre has displays and information on the area including the local biodiversity, geology and management.
