More information on this location
The landscape in this part of the National Park has seen a huge amount of change over the last 100 years, in particular woodland cover has increased significantly.
Much of Glenmore Forest Park is a National Nature Reserve. The forest is home to many species including: red squirrel; crested tits and wood ants, on the loch you may spot goldeneye; red-throated divers; and even otters. The reserve is managed to help protect this rich habitat and to welcome visitors who want to enjoy it.
The Youth Hostel was formally Glenmore Lodge, located perfectly on a moraine terrace to make the most of the views across to loch to the hills.
Probably the one thing that has most transformed this landscape and brought huge numbers of visitors to the area is skiing. In the 1950's people had to carry their skis from Glenmore; the first road was only built on the 1960's and the Cairngorm Mountain Railway was built in 2001.
Check out the walking and other activities of interest in the area by visiting the Glenmore Forest Park website.
