Photo Post Location 22 . Glen Clunie

Soldiers, sheep and trees

The photo post is just off the A93 at Auchallater. The view from the photo post looks along the open glen floor across the confluence of the River Clunie and the Callater Burn and a regular pattern of 19th century improved fields. The view along the glen is framed by the slopes of Morrone to the west and Creag Clunie to the east with the woodlands of Invercauld above Braemar to the north. The changes we hope to document here are all to do with trees. The few scattered mature alder trees along the river banks have been augmented in 2015 as part of the Pearls In Peril project. One of the largest native woodland schemes in the area has been planted on the slopes of Creag Clunie.
