How to get there
This photo post is best accessed on foot, due to lack of off-road parking next to the photo post.
There is a small lay-by beside the bridge over the Spey which can be used for parking or alternatively park in the centre of the village and walk the short distance to the loch (approximately 500m).
More information on this location
Milton loch is damned and this was done in order to power a water mill that used to exist at Drumuillie on the Spey. Though we don’t know exactly when the loch was damned, we do know that even before the railway came in 1863, Milton was a thriving area with a watermill and a sluice gate to control the flow of water from the loch to the mill. At this time the loch was very different to how it is today, being surrounded by open fields (see a photo here). Drumuillie mill building still exists as a private dwelling, though it is no longer a functioning mill.
