How to get here

Easy access on edge of Coire Ciste car park. The photo post “bracket” is situated on a slate plinth at the grouse butt at the far end of the car park.

Depending on the type of device you use, it is possible that you may get some of the slate plinth in your shot. You may need to adjust the zoom slightly so that the plinth doesn't appear in the photograph.

Guidance on taking photographs.

More information on this location

Glenmore translated from Gaelic means “Big Glen”. The native pineforest of Glenmore forms part of one of the largest tracts of continuous woodland in the UK and is home to capercaillie, red squirrels, crested tits and crossbills. A walk through the Ryvoan Pass from Glenmore Lodge reveals the beautiful secluded Lochan Uaine (which means “Green lochan”), once a cattle drink used by cattle thieves and drovers.

Glenmore Forest is a National Nature Reserve managed by Forestry Commission Scotland, for more information visit their website. The stone viewing platform you’re using is also used as a grouse butt to view lekking black grouse. If you’re up early on a still morning, the RSPB runs black grouse watches every year to allow you to observe these enigmatic birds in all their glory. CairnGorm Mountain has a ranger service which provides guided walks to learn more about the montane environment.
