Cairngorms National Park Core Paths Plan Consultation and Engagement Process – Stage 2 Public Consultation Meeting – Glenisla Date: Monday 7th of May 2007 Time: 7:30pm Venue: Glenisla Village Hall Location: Kirkton of Glenisla No. Attending: 5 Introduction This report details the feedback obtained at a public meeting where people were asked to give their views on the Interim Draft Core Paths Plan. Summary During the meeting the following issues were raised: • The difficulties of engagement with Angus Glens communities - few communities identify closely with the Park as they live outside the boundary. • Giving the Glens the name the Eastern Cairngorm is not a very accurate description, most people would identify with a name which describes it as the area as the South or South East Cairngorms. • The need for more routes in and between the three glens of Glen Esk, Glen Clova, Glen Prosen and Glen Isla including the Ministers’ Walk, and the route from Corrie Fee to Prosen via Dun Hillocks • The Ministers path, whilst predominantly outside the National Park boundary may be flagged up in the Angus Council core paths planning consultation. • Linking paths from the Angus Glens to the Upper Deeside villages were popular but not necessarily suitable for core paths. Issues specific to Glen Isla • The fact that Glen Isla falls between 3 OS maps is not convenient from a navigational and route planning point of view • Glen Isla is often not shown on Park-wide maps and publications • The walk from Auchavan to Bessie’s Cairn should be include as a CP – it is popular and suitable for a range of users • The car park at Auchavan needs improving Path No. UDE1 Brig o’ Dee to Lion’s Face in Upper Deeside There are caper disturbance issues on this route and some difficult inclines Next Steps The comments and issues raised at this meeting will inform revisions to the Interim Draft Core Paths Plan as part of the wider consultation process. A revised version will be considered by the CNPA Board in December 2007 and the revised Plan will then be submitted to Scottish Ministers in February 2008.
