Cairngorms Peatland ACTION Fund

The target in the National Park is to achieve a minimum of 38,000 hectares of peatland under restoration management by 2045. The Park Authority is working closely with local landowners and contractors to complete this work and supporting new entrants to the peatland industry.
The Cairngorms Peatland ACTION programme provides funding for projects that restore or lead to the restoration of peatlands, or encourage wider engagement with peatlands in the Cairngorms National Park. There are separate grant schemes for development and delivery, which follow a different process and have associated application documents and guidance.
Development grants
To support the delivery of peatland restoration work, land managers may require specialists to develop restoration plans. Development grants from Cairngorms Peatland ACTION are available to cover the cost of project development, with the following aims:
- To develop a longer-term pipeline of peatland restoration projects across the Cairngorms National Park, contributing to National Park Partnership Plan targets and increasing the pace and scale of delivery.
- To ensure peatland restoration design and project development is being delivered to the standard required for delivering quality peatland restoration outcomes.
Delivery grants
Grant funding is available to support the capital costs for delivery of a peatland restoration project and is currently awarded annually. Eligible costs include project management support by an external delivery body.
