Twinflower (Linnaea borealis) in flower in pine woodland

Made up of the plants and trees that create our amazing landscapes, the diverse habitats in the National Park support all of our incredible wildlife.

The Cairngorms has the UK’s largest remaining areas of semi-natural woodland, the most extensive area of boreal forest - the great belt of forest circling the globe from Siberia to Canada - and more than half of the surviving Caledonian forest.

The National Park is also home to some extremely rare plants and flowers, such as the twinflower, the one-flowered wintergreen and marsh saxifrage which only now exists in six known sites.
