Planning advice and support

Aerial shot of the Spey Bridge at Newtonmore.

The planning system in the Cairngorms National Park is managed by the Park Authority and the five local authorities which operate in the National Park - Aberdeenshire, Angus, Highland, Moray and Perth and Kinross.

Our planning service helps get the right kind of development in the right places by promoting investment, protecting and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the area and creating places that we can all value and enjoy.

All planning applications in the Cairngorms National Park are made to the relevant local authority. If the application is important to the wider aims of the National Park, it will be called in and decided by the Park Authority.

View and comment on planning applications

One of the main functions of our planning service is to assess and determine planning applications.

To view the planning applications that have been called in by the Park Authority, you must read and accept the terms and conditions.

Local development plan

The Local Development Plan was adopted in 2021. It enables the right kind of development to happen in the right place, to help deliver the aims of the Cairngorms National Park.

All planning applications within the National Park are decided against the Local Development Plan.
