New Convener for Cairngorms National Park Authority

8th September 2006

The board of Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) has elected a new Convener. David Green takes over the position from Andrew Thin who stood down at the end of August in order to take up the appointment of Chairman of Scottish Natural Heritage.

David Green was chosen for the position of Convener by his fellow board members at the Park Authority’s monthly board meeting in Kingussie this afternoon (Friday 8 September). David is a self employed crofter who has diversified into tourism based on the croft and lives in Ross and Cromarty. Currently he is Chair of the Crofters Commission and he was a Crofters Commissioner until September 2002 and Convener of Highland Council until May 2003.

David Green has been a CNPA board member since the organisation was established in 2003 having been appointed by the then Deputy Environment and Rural Development Minister, Allan Wilson.

Commenting on his appointment David said: “I am delighted to be the new Convener of the Cairngorms National Park Authority and look forward to the challenges ahead. It is a huge privilege to lead the National Park Authority and I am keen to work with the board and staff to look after and promote this wonderful area.”

Congratulating David Green on his appointment, the outgoing Convener Andrew Thin said: “I would like to wish David every success and having worked with him over the past few years I am confident that he is the right choice to lead the Park Authority in this new era, with the completion of the National Park Plan and Local Plan on the horizon.”

A new Convener for the CNPA’s Planning Committee and the Staffing and Recruitment Committee – both positions previously held by Andrew Thin – will be decided at the next meetings of both of these committees.

A new board member for the Park Authority will be announced by the Scottish Executive in due course.
