New support launched for Cairngorms farmers and crofters
Farmers and crofters across the Cairngorms National Park are being offered new advice, training and funding opportunities through the Cairngorms future farming project as it enters its third year.
Two support packages are available that combine practical advice and training with small capital grants. The first package will help farms explore in detail the financial implications of adopting different sustainable farming practices, providing clarity on costs, savings and long-term business impacts. The second is aimed at farms interested in transitioning to a whole-farm regenerative system, offering tailored advice, training and capital support to enable the shift.
To apply for the regenerative transition support package, farmers and crofters are invited to attend one of a series of information events taking place in February 2026. An online session will be held on the evening of 9 February, with in-person evening events on 10 February in Grantown-on-Spey and 11 February in Ballater. These events will provide an overview of the support available, what it involves, and how to apply. The online event will also be recorded and shared with farmers who may be unable to attend.
Moya MacDonald, Nature Based Solutions Officer at the Cairngorms National Park Authority, said: “The Cairngorms future farming project focuses on supporting farms to reduce their carbon footprint while continuing to produce high-quality food, boost biodiversity, and strengthen businesses.
“These new support packages have been shaped by local farmers’ experiences and are designed to be practical, relevant and beneficial to farming and crofting businesses in the National Park. I would encourage farmers to come along to one of the February events, find out more about what’s on offer and consider applying.”
