Wigwams for Tomintoul

17th April 2015

The village of Tomintoul in the Cairngorms National Park is expanding its choice of holiday accommodation for visitors with planning permission granted today for 24 wigwams.

Members of the Cairngorms National Park Authority’s (CNPA) planning committee approved the application from Wigwam Holidays at its meeting in Ballater this morning (Friday 17th April).

The company is working with the Crown Estate to deliver the development, which will hopefully encourage more visitors to the area providing a knock-on effect to other local businesses. The development, on a site at the south eastern end of the village, is also set to create three new jobs.

Eleanor Mackintosh, Convener of the Planning Committee said: “I am very happy to support this application. We are keen to see new tourism projects in the Cairngorms National Park that are in the right places and that will add to the visitor experience. For me, this special corner of the Park will benefit from such a development.”

This application is another project breathing life back into the Tomintoul & Glenlivet area of the Cairngorms National Park. It follows on from projects such as the Smugglers Hostel, and the Glenlivet Mountain Bike Trails.
