Ballater bus depot to become a shop

8th November 2013

The Ballater bus depot is set to become a retail outlet after the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) planning committee approved Stagecoach Scotland’s planning application for the conversion.

Meeting in Ballater today (Friday 8th November), members agreed with the planning officer’s recommendation to grant permission to turn the premises into a retail outlet suitable for a small supermarket. Committee members had deferred a decision on the application at their previous meeting (11th October) to allow the company to bring forward more information with regards to parking facilities.

The Co-op, which has two smaller units in Ballater’s Netherley Place and Main Street, is set to move into the bus depot when the work is complete. Stagecoach Scotland is looking to relocate the bus depot to another area of the town.

Planning Committee convener Eleanor Mackintosh said: “This is a good development for Ballater with improved local services and a boost to the local economy. It will allow people to shop locally and the increased footfall in shoppers should also benefit other businesses in the town.”
