Rangers work across the National Park to provide a warm welcome and support for everyone to enjoy, discover and connect to the landscapes and nature of the Cairngorms in a caring and responsible way.
Cairngorms ranger team
Our ranger team is skilled in the delivery of engagement activities to a wide range of audiences from visiting families, local communities and special interest groups. We cover the whole of the national park based in two teams, one based in Grantown on Spey and the other in Ballater.
Our ranger team works in partnership with other site-based ranger services and land managers across the park at key visitor ‘hotspots’ including communities, car parks, trail heads, roadside locations, countryside attractions and viewpoints.
Countryside rangers
Our team of skilled and experienced countryside rangers work on a variety of engagement projects and activities to promote the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the park and creating a park welcome to all.
Seasonal rangers
From April to October our team of seasonal rangers work with our countryside rangers and partners to welcome visitors at our key visitor hotspots. Promoting responsible access and sharing advice and knowledge on their patrols and engagement activities our seasonal rangers play a vital role in helping protect this special place to ensure current and future generations can continue to come and enjoy its special nature and environment.
What does a seasonal ranger do?Trainee rangers
We run an annual trainee ranger programme from June to September, allowing individuals to learn key engagement skills and knowledge of the landscapes, habitats and species of the national park by shadowing the rest of the ranger team.
