Sustainable transport

Together with partners, this project is delivering several initiatives focusing on bus and rail travel and community transport, making public transport more accessible and a more attractive alternative to using a private car.
Reliable sustainable transport has the potential to make the Cairngorms National Park a fairer, healthier and more economically vibrant place to live, work and visit.
To reduce the number of journeys travelled by private car, people require access to reliable and appropriate public transport that meets their needs. This is particularly important for the most rural communities, who have to travel longer and more often to meet their daily needs such as shopping and healthcare. People often also rely on a variety of modes of transport for one journey, highlighting the importance of integrating public transport and active travel options for getting around.
This project will deliver a range of sustainable transport initiatives across the National Park, including:
- Bus travel improvements in Badenoch and Strathspey.
- Sustainable transport developments along the Aviemore-Glenmore-Cairngorm corridor.
- Encouraging multi-modal journeys in Deeside through mobility hubs and enabling people to take bikes on buses.
- Improving access and promoting multi-modal journeys at railway stations.
- Helping community transport providers increase the impact of their activities and services.
These activities will be delivered in collaboration with Transport Authorities, Regional Transport Partnerships, operators and key stakeholders such as the Highland Main Line Railway Partnership.
