Current Visitor Management Work
The work outlined below is still being developed with partners and will be brought together through the Visitor Management Plans for the National Park. The Park-wide Visitor Management Group is meeting on 10th March and the Visitor Management Plans will be finalised at that point.
Deeside
- Linn of Dee (NTS) a) Work to increase car park capacity at Linn of Dee & Quoich b) Temporary Traffic Order (TTO) for Linn of Dee from Easter to October c) Portaloos will be in place from Easter at Linn of Dee.
- Glen Muick (Balmoral) a) Work to increase car park capacity at Loch Muick. b) Temporary Traffic Order (TTO) for Glen Muick from Easter to October c) New permanent variable message to be installed at Glen Muick entrance.
- Muir of Dinnet (Dinnet Estate/NatureScot) a) Development of temporary car parking at Clarack near Dinnet. b) Looking at ways to stop verge parking with Aberdeenshire Council nr entrance to NatureScot facility.
- Glen Tanar a) Looking at potential to help with the temporary car park nr entrance to Glen Tanar including looking at resurfacing works in temporary overflow carpark.
Angus Glens
Agreeing work programme with Angus Alive and FLS to improve ranger cover in Glen Doll based on ranger grants from CNPA and FLS funding.
In discussion to support seasonal ranger in Glen Esk/Glen Doll with Estates and SLE in the area.
Additional works in development to refurbish the overflow carpark and increase capacity including levelling and reinforcing the entrance Glen Doll.
Western Cairngorms
- Cairngorm Mountain (CMSL) a) Working with CMSL to deliver a campervan facility at Ciste car park for summer.
- Cairngorm and Glenmore (FLS, THC) a) Joint work between THC and CNPA to do works along Loch Morlich roadside to improve traffic management. b) Improvements being made to beach toilets including installation of external taps and sinks. c) The CAGOUL (Cairngorm and Glenmore Outdoor Use and Learning) Project being developed with partners to deploy a network of sensors to monitor visitor and traffic use of the area. d) Looking at wider visitor management issues with FLS including toilet capacity at beach. e) Glenmore campsite has indicated it will open this year. f) Variable message sign for Glenmore to be put in place.
- Loch Garten (RSPB) a) Work to upgrade paths and potentially a new all abilities access toilet at main car park.
- Rothiemurchus a) Work to increase car park capacity at Loch an Eilein.
- Dalwhinnie a) Dalwhinnie Community & Ben Alder Estate are working together to provide improved parking for Munro access – grant aid from Green Recovery Fund b) Formation of touring motorhome/caravan site at land north of Birchview, Dalwhinnie has been called in for planning.
Ranger Services
CNPA will continue to support 6 Ranger Services (Atholl, Rothiemurchus, Glen Tanar, Abernethy, Balmoral, Angus Alive) in the National Park.
The CNPA is also looking at extra seasonal support for Glen Esk & Glen Doll.
8 CNPA seasonal rangers will start mid-March and be on the ground from Easter weekend. FLS and NatureScot are also recruiting site-based staff.
Liaison meetings are being held with Estate-based rangers services, land managers and Police Scotland as part of induction and training.
Community Engagement
- On 1st March CNPA & CBP meetings with residents, Local Authority Councillors and Community Councils over zoom.
Communications
The #CairngormsTogether work is progressing with partners and linking to the development of consistent national messages in time for Easter.
A revised set of messages to promote the Scottish Outdoor Access Code based on “Tread lightly in the Park” is being developed in time for Easter, backed up by a suite of resources including publications, posters, social media assets and films.
Campervans
CBP are producing visitor friendly guide to direct campervans to best locations – grant aid from Green Recovery Fund.
Planning application for formation of touring motorhome/caravan site North of Birchview, Dalwhinnie has been called in by CNPA.
2021⁄22 — Visitor Infrastructure
The CNPA are looking at the potential to support further visitor management infrastructure with the 2021⁄22 budget alongside partner organisations and estates.
