AUGUST 2021 QUARTERLY UPDATE
This quarter has continued with interest. The campaign projects are now both nearly finished with both projects continuing to develop their projects further. The Osprey nest for the Osprey Village project has found funding for a further set of community willow weaving workshops and community events in the Milton Loch site, these have been a real success, they are still awaiting production of interpretation. The Kingussie Path network Improvement project has been nominated for “Paths for All” Volunteer group of the year for their work supported by the Cairngorms Trust. The 2021 Cairngorms Green Recovery Fund Projects have now all started, and the 2020 projects have all completed. The TICK project has been ongoing and has been working well in partnership with the LEADER team and other external agencies with Cycling UK looking at extending the project workers role until the end of the calendar year.
LOOKING FORWARD
Looking forward this quarter, there is a need to continue marketing and increasing the visibility of the Cairngorms Trust as well as contacting and increasing local businesses who have a knowledge about us. The GRF2021 projects continue and regular updates will be requested from each of the projects to ensure they are progressing as planned. The guidance and supporting documents for the 3 new campaign funds in the fields of Nature, Infrastructure and Youth are now written and ready for LAG approval before going live later in the year.
The Voluntary Giving Steering Group has met and given valuable guidance. I have been writing a number of grant applications to try to increase core funding and allow the trust to employ additional employees in a fundraising and or marketing capacity.

CAMPAIGN PROJECT
An Osprey Nest for the Osprey Village
CAIRNGORMS TRUST GIVE PROTECT GROW
The Osprey Nest for the Osprey Village project in Boat of Garten is still in the same position and has almost finished. They are awaiting interpretation arriving from Acorn Signs. Once the interpretation is in place they will draw down their final claim from us. The project has been a real success within the village with increasing numbers of young families visiting the site, playing in the willow sculpture and enjoying the transformation of the area.
The Boat of Garten Wildlife Group are continuing to develop the project following our involvement and have held additional community willow weaving sessions in the summer months of 2021 along with other community activities on the site. They are planning to use some of the smaller figures to increase the interest in the Milton Loch area.

A Bridge to your Community
As the Heritage lottery Bid has been successful the Spey Catchment Initiative are now starting the process of the Slugan Burn Project which the bridge will be used in. Updates to follow as they occur.
Backbone Update
Eric attended the Backbone online conference and reported back the following points that the CT can follow up on.
- Ensuring that the Cairngorms Trust are ‘inclusion aware’
- Making inclusion a key criterion for applicants to our funding streams: a good way to do this could be to provide a ‘menu’ of actions/options: this would encourage applicants to address the issue constructively and creatively, and not simply undertake a ‘tick box’ exercise.
Following on from this the next gathering will be on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th September 10am — 4pm Battleby Perth 2 physical gatherings for a maximum of 50 participants each. There will be an option to join either of those dates.
