CAIRNGORMS LOCAL OUTDOOR ACCESS FORUM Adam Streeter-Smith, Recreation and Access Manager Update and forward look Purpose: This paper provides an update on the main areas of work both undertaken and planned.
- Management of core paths and outdoor access duties:
a) Speyside Way – Park Authority Staff are working with OATS to redevelop a shorts section of the route at Kincraig to remove a steep slope. Planning permission is to be submitted shortly.
b) Other Path Projects-
- Braemar to Keiloch Path- OATS have submitted a planning application for the middle section of the route, once validated by Aberdeenshire Council it will most likely be called in by the CNPA
c) Community Path Leaflets
- Currently re-designing the leaflet layout in the new branding, with Carrbridge village as the example. Laggan and Strathdon will follow.
d) SOAC promotion
- Publications new fire leaflet produced. Tread lightly leaflet updated and rebranded. Tread lightly posters currently being rebranded.
- Ranger events – number of pop-up events took place again this year.
- Education programme – school sessions, teacher training sessions and training for ranger services all took place.
- ‘High Fire Risk’ magnetic vehicle signs produced.

Other Park Initiatives
Caper project / Dog community. Following on from an initial online survey of the dog walking community, a small group of representatives came together over a series of four meetings. Key actions identified for progressing were around fostering a dog community, creating dog friendly spaces and working on standardised signage. An intern is now in post working on a “Dog friendly Cairngorms” project to develop a 5‑year action plan and trial the creation of a dog friendly exercise area.
Cairngorms 2030 The application was submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) in mid- August. This included over 70 detailed delivery and cost plans for 20 major projects. We expect the NLHF award decision in December with the 5‑year delivery phase starting in January 2024. If we are successful, we will draw in £10.7m in lottery funding
