Appendix 2 – Summary of Engagement on Action Plan
Background Staff initially drew on the consultation feedback that had been gathered on the National Park Partnership Plan up to 2022. Then, beginning in May 2023 Cairngorms National Park Authority staff engaged with key stakeholders on the Active Cairngorms Action Plan using the following measures: • Online questionnaire on key issues • One-to-one meetings with key stakeholders • Papers submitted to key advisory forums (e.g. Local Outdoor Access Forum, Managing for Visitors Group, Cairngorms Tourism Partnership, etc) • Informal discussion with Cairngorms National Park Authority Board and members • Circulation of draft papers • Collation of feedback from other key events
Engagement In preparation of the Action Plan approximately 130- 150 stakeholders including land managers, Ranger Service staff and recreational interest groups and membership bodies have engaged with, or had the opportunity to comment on, with the emerging draft Action Plan. Staff also attended meetings with the Local Outdoor Access Forum and Equalities Advisory Group, Cairngorms Tourism Partnership, etc.
Summary of Feedback Overall, the feedback on proposals has generally been very positive with many new ideas generated though the discussions — the key strategic points were as follows (full summary is available on request): • Need to ensure tone and main focus is on providing warm welcome to visitors (the people / the visitor journey) • Avoid language around conflict and pressures as far as possible and focus on the positive • Maintain focus on building a family of Ranger Services, working together for the whole Park • Cairngorms National Park Authority to play a more active coordination role in matters such as ranger training, volunteering and the maintenance and development of paths and trails

• Strengthen elements around resilience planning in light of future climate emergency challenges (e.g. response to fires and floods, etc) • Emphasis people and nature (e.g. addressing wildlife disturbance)
