Cairngorms National Park Authority Ranger Service
- Covering the entirety of the Cairngorms National Park area, the team comprises of: a) Countryside Rangers – five full time (FT) (Permanent / all year) b) Seasonal Rangers — 11 (9 FT, 2 PT), Apil – October c) Trainee Rangers – four part time (PT) June – September
Family of Ranger Services
- 14 site-based ranger services operate across the Cairngorms National Park consisting of over 50 rangers in total. These Ranger Services as well as the Cairngorms National Park Authority Ranger Team work in partnership on various aspects of ranger work including patrolling, engagement and education activities as well as training and development to form the Cairngorms National Park Family of Ranger Services.
Patrol Data
We ask Ranger Services across the Cairngorms National Park to collect data whilst out patrolling across their sites. The reason for this is so we can monitor visitor pressures across the Park and make sure we distribute our ranger resources appropriately. This data is then used to look at trends in visitor behaviours and activities across different sites helping us to identity hot spots which then informs our visitor infrastructure planning.
Data is also shared with the Managing for Visitors Group, which consists of landowners and public bodies working across the Park on visitor management activities. Our data also informs national groups who report directly to Scottish Government, during the season we submit a red, amber green (RAG) rating regarding visitor management pressures at key locations across the Park, this is a Scotland wide initiative. More information on the national visitor management approach can be seen at https://www.visitscotland.org/about-us/what-we- do/working-in-partnership/visitor-management-plan
