Appendix 6.3 Comments from , Laggan farmers Comments made by farmer who attended the Laggan meeting on the 12 October 2023.

Response received by email on 25 October 2023 after the licence application was submitted, therefore not included in the numbers within the engagement report.

Laggan is a very special but fragile place, its an isolated geographical pocket of excellent free draining alluvial sandy loam Macaulay Institute grade 3(II) agricultural land. It is on the periphery in terms of farming and community. The landownership is unusual in that the majority of farms and crofts are owner occupied and not exclusively large landowning interests

Allowing beavers to move into the Laggan parish will cause serious damage to fencing, ditches and flood-banks, which the farming/crofting community could not financially absorb, a burst flood-bank would be catastrophic.

I would ask that a no-go zone for beavers is established in the Laggan parish to protect the flood plain, to protect land-based communities and their livelihoods. The Fisheries Board have requested no-go zones to protect salmon smolts, I would ask for similar no- go protection for local people. Laggan
