Active communities – Aviemore
N Improving how we travel in Aviemore
Over the past few years, we’ve been working on ideas and consulting with residents on proposals for a safe route between Aviemore town centre and the Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital that is walking, cycling, wheelchair and buggy friendly.
Construction timescales will depend on available funding, but we are keen for residents to be involved at every stage of the process as it develops.

The vision – what we’re aiming for (1)
Separated cycle track
Pavement 1.5 – 2.0m
Carriageway 6.0 – 7.0m
Buffer Two Way Cycle Track 0.5m 2.0 – 3.0m
Pavement 1.5 – 2.0m
AA Where possible on Dalfaber Drive and Grampian Road we are looking to create the road layout as shown above, with wide pavements, a segregated cycle route for bikes, and the road for vehicles, buses and emergency services.
Where road space is limited
Pavement 1.5 – 2.0m
Carriageway 6.0 – 7.0m
Pavement 2.5 – 4.0m
This image shows another option where we don’t have the space for a fully separated cycle route. While we are hoping to avoid this, it may be required at some pinch points. At these locations cyclists would be expected to use the road.
