Boat of Garten North - storyboarding
Active communities Boat of Garten
Help shape safer travel around Boat of Garten
Over the past few years, we’ve been developing ideas and working with the Boat of Garten community on proposals to create safer, more accessible routes through the village. These improvements aim to make walking, cycling, using a wheelchair, and buggy use easy and enjoyable, connecting key destinations such as the school, village centre, and local paths.
Construction timescales will depend on available funding, but we are keen for residents to be involved at every stage of the process as it develops.

The vision – what we’re aiming for (1)
Deshar Road western village entrance and near Craigie Avenue
- Speed bumps will slow vehicles entering Boat of Garten, reinforcing the new 20 mph limit and improving safety for walkers and cyclists, especially on the school route.
- Lowered kerbs and textured paving will mark the crossing, making it easier for people living with sight loss.
- Pavement will extend across side roads, giving pedestrians priority and creating level, step-free crossings for wheelchair users, buggies, and people with sight loss.

Deshar Road near Craigie Avenue
- Lowered kerbs and textured paving will mark the crossing, making it easier for people living with sight loss.
- A raised crossing will slow traffic and give a smooth, step-free route where people naturally cross.
The vision – what we’re aiming for (2)
Deshar Road near Church Drive
- The pavement will continue across Church Drive, giving pedestrians priority and creating a level, step-free crossing. This makes it easier and safer for wheelchair users, buggies, and people living with sight loss.
