- What do you think of the project overall?
Strongly support

Aviemore is currently an unpleasant place to walk and cycle around. Pavements are too narrow for safe comfortable walking, in particular during busy tourist periods. Cycling also feels unsafe and difficult as there are too many cars either passing through the centre or parking in the middle of the village. There are very few green spaces and not many places to sit.
- Do you have any other feedback or ideas you would like us to consider?
Extension of safer walking and cycling from Aviemore to Inverdruie. The current pavement is too narrow for safe/comfortable walking and the speed and volume of cars on the road makes it feel unsafe and uncomfortable. As this is a busy route for tourists, improvements to encourage walking and cycling would improve the experience and might even reduce car use.

Aviemore hosts a much larger population (summer and winter) than its core population. It needs this investment in its infrastructure if it is t remain an attractive place to both live in and visit.
- Do you have any other feedback or ideas you would like us to consider?
Surfacing and lighting of underpasses and paths is very important. improved lighting of paths more generally is important for year round use.

My daughter is a full time wheelchair user and getting about can be quite challenging. Looking at dropped kerbs and accessible paths would benefit us as a family.
- Do you have any other feedback or ideas you would like us to consider?
Accessible playgrounds. There are absolutely none in the Cairngorms. There is just one basket swing I can place my daughter on. She absolutely loves swings and play parks in general. We’d love to see more accessible equipment in playgrounds especially if there are new green/play spaces being added.

It equalises the transport. Currently the car is ‘king’. These proposals will help to get other forms of transports more mainstream

What about E scooters and mobility vehicles ? Aviemore, along with the rest of the National Park has an increasing ageing population. Future trends and demographic have to be taken into consideration

I feel totally excluded by these plans. When we moved to Aviemore we deliberately chose a house adjacent to a bus route; this bus route has now been completely withdrawn, leaving me, now on my own, with no opportunity to get into the village without using my car. I am not wheelchair bound, but at 79 years of age my days of cycling are long over. I would find it impossible to walk back from the village with any shopping, although I consider myself to be fairly mobile for my age, I do have major health problems. These proposals victimise me! I care about environmental issues, but I am part of the environment too!! With Aviemore being a tourist villages businesses depend upon visitors arriving in their cars; making the village too car unfriendly will increase congestion and make life more challenging for locals. The lack of joined up thinking here is unbelievable; to cancel busses to a large area of the village, and then to try insist that people use public transport is just plain crazy.

Not directly connected with then proposals, but I would ask you to consider the situation of access to Laggantygown Cemetery. In recent years web sites, and the tourist office encourages people to park in the tiny car park at Laggantygown to go wild swimming etc on Loch Vaa. This creates problems. My husband is buried in that cemetery, which is a long way out of the village. There is no possible footpath even if I could walk that far! But, on sunny days it can be impossible to visit the cemetery as that car park is full to overflowing, sometime with a minibus and trailer taking up a large amount of space. There are times, such as his birthday, when it is important for me to visit him, but it is beyond heartbreaking to have to turn around and return home because there is nowhere to park. Surely a couple of spaces could be strictly dedicated to cemetery users? The sign there prohibiting overnight park seems to be

People in the National Park use their cars daily because of the geographical distance between areas
- Do you have any other feedback or ideas you would like us to consider?
Upgrade the roads because they are more important for everyone living, working and visiting the area

Currently Aviemore doesn’t work very well for anyone except car drivers — and doesn’t even work well for them. It’s been subject to random developments over the years which don’t work well together. This is a great opportunity to look at things afresh and in an overall context before yet another major development inflicts more problems.
- Do you have any other feedback or ideas you would like us to consider?
I think the immediate areas outwith the proposed areas for change need to be considered with a lighter touch. A classic example is the link between the Old Spey Bridge past the Old Bridge Inn and under the railway up to pavement. It would bring big benefits to local users and visitors if this was tidied up to the same standard as these proposals.

I like the idea of cycle paths but sadly many cyclists would still not use them. I see this every day when travelling back and forth from Kingussie. Also, where would the nearest parking be for the businesses of the Harkai and
Tamanna? Why remove the only parking there is? Not sensible and will result in loss of business. No one will park near Tesco or Myrtlefield to walk to Harkais for chips.

Cars aren’t going anywhere, that is fact. Signposting of walking routes, especially the ones for ramblers need improving. Sometimes are not existant. Where is the fabled Aviemore circular? Please have consideration for locals, not just for tourists.

Aviemore is dominated by traffic, and fairly often by large diesel vehicles. Anything to make it easier for people to get into the center without driving or actively discourages people to take their cars there has to be considered.

Getting rid of the layby parking spaces along Grampian Road should be a priority. These are the cause of congestion at busy times. There are 5 other carparks, are these not enough?
- The entrance to the Tesco car park should be moved round the back for the same reason.
- There is nowhere to sit where you are not looking at traffic. There is nowhere to have a coffee where you are not looking at cars.
- Shared paths may be cheaper, but pedestrains wear headphones and move at different speeds to bikes.
- Why is the Petrol station allowed to be a mini supermarket/coffee shop? It literally blocks the whole road as people shop after they have filled up and no one can get passed.
- Can Dalfaber road be upgraded so that bikes and pesdestrians can be completley away from cars and motorhomes? Its a far more pleasant walk.
- The best move that could be made is reroute traffic through what is currently the McDonalds hotel complex. I’m sure its not an easy fix, but it would revolutionise the town center, increase business opportunities and
footfall and maybe encourage people to linger around the shops rather running from the congestion, fumes and noise. View proposal Share Reply

Making a safe cycle route around the extremely busy roads of Aviemore can only encourage less car use. The outlines are well thought through, I was delighted to get detailed answers to all my questions, and wish the team the best of luck with their presentation to the board.

Get Highland Council onside, going off doing their own thing in the middle of this plan is a waste of taxpayers money.

Bi-directional cycle routes: strongly against: It is a lot of money to spend to enable the fears of people that are not happy to cycle on roads with cars and a lot of money to spend to enable many car drivers to drive in a way that people feel scared about. Are you making those of us that are not scared of cycling on roads co-dependent on other people’s fears? And for many of us that are confident on the road and happily ride road bikes we’ll not be using the cycle route anyway, too many curves, junctions etc. We’ll just carry on cruising down the roads. Dropped kerbs, filling in gaps in pavements etc: support. Get on with it; why are you consulting? JBDI.

The most important cycling routes in the area are between communities, sorting out ‘death alley’ as cyclists call part of the route between Aviemore and Grantown should be way ahead of sticking a bike line down grampian road in your priority list and far better value for money. And also the Alvie bends by Loch Alvie: road bikes never going to use the speyside way which is ***** for any bikes, so those curves need sorting out.

Avimeore as a whole is not conducive to relaxed walking or cycling. Currently strongly supports cars (most of which drive too fast along Grampian Road and Dalfaber Drive is a racetrack).

I’d love to see the center of Aviemore completely pedestrianized. Giving more space for outdoor seating and events. It’s proven that people spend more money in these spaces! It worked at the old Aviemore Center so it can work
again! Thanks for all the hard work on this, it’s greatly appreciated. I really look forward to seeing what Aviemore of the future looks like! View proposal Share Reply
