We would like to support the provision of the NMU from Carrbridge to Aviemore with the section from Carrbridge to Kinveachy along the B9153 to be constructed as a top priority. We regularly cycle this road and it is horrendous. Vehicles travel at 60 mph plus and it is very frightening especially because of the bends and blind corners.
We have witnessed several near misses both while on our bikes and driving with oncoming vehicles trying to over take cyclists. We live in Carrbridge and have a young child. We want to be able to safely cycle with them through to Boat of Garten and Aviemore. At the moment we are too scared to even think about cycling with a child along this road and find it very concerning when we see visiting tourist families, including some less competent cyclists, riding along with the false sense of security in believing they are heading along what is a listed as a relatively safe Sustrans Route 7 cycle route. We hope that this NMU can be approved and work can be completed as soon as possible with consutrction to start on the short section from Carrbridge to Kinveachy junction so as we can cycle off road through to Boat of Garten and onto the Speyside Way.
Thank you, Emma Norton

I am writing in support of the planning application for the ACNMU. 2025/0109/DET | Formation of 3m wide 9km long segregated NMU route/path ACNMU
This is a long overdue route, particularly for the residents of Carrbridge who currently have no safe means of leaving the village to travel to neighbouring communities by foot/wheel/horse.
A petiton of 187 names in support of the ACNMU and in particular for having the section between Carrbridge and Kinveachy junction started as soon as possible in advance of the remaining section was submitted to Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop in late 2024 showing how strong the support for this is in the community.
The B9153 from Carrbridge to Kinveachy is a winding road and totally unsuitable for cyclists, has no safe verge for walkers and is unsuitable for horses. The speed and level of traffic make it incredibly dangerous for any of these users and it is also a risk to the drivers. There has been a noticable increase in cyclists since Hitrans & Sustrans advertise the B9153 Carrbridge to Kinveachy as part of their cycle networks.
Carrbridge is home to Landmark, one of the largest tourist attractions in the area which has well over 160,000 visitors per year the majority of whom travel by road to the attraction many using the B9153 including coachloads.
The B9153 is also used as a diversion for road traffic during any accident or road works on the A9 and this will more than likely increase when works start on the dualling which is why it is imperative that the Carrbridge to Kinveachy section is completed as soon as possible well in advance of any dualling works.
There is no tie in to the A9 dualling for drainage etc on the proposed NMU section between Carrbridge and Kinveachy and as such it would be possible for this section to be completed in advance. Many parts of the Speyside way have been done bit by bit so doing the ACNMU in phases would be following this format rather than setting a precedent.
There is widespread support both from the community of Carrbridge, from visitors to the area and from people from the surrounding communities for this NMU to be completed as soon as is possible. There have been too many hold ups and delays to this project and it is time to get it actioned with the minimum of delays so our community can be connected to others safely.
Sincerely L Duncan

I also fully support the initiative from a group of Carrbridge residents who — with valuable support from local politicians — have campaigned for a priority construction of the most urgently needed ACNMU section, the Kinveachy junction-Carrbridge route parallel to B9153 which will connect Carrbridge to the existing NMU network to Aviemore and the Strath.
Until that section is built, Carrbridge residents, visitors and NCN‑7 users have the choice between two equally unsuitable options, biking along the busy B9153 or choosing the traffic free options to the west or east of the B9153/A9.
The B9153 Kinveachy junction-Carrbridge is not safe for anyone and to promote it as part of the National Cycle Network‑7 route is irresponsible. Blind bends that make it very difficult for motorists to see cyclists at a safe distance — and 30 – 40 cm’s high verges that make it impossible for cyclists to even get off the road in an emergency is a potentially lethal combination.
None of the traffic free options are suitable for families/inexperienced or heavy loaded cyclists. The western routes (from Kinveachy junction via the Lethendryveole farm) involves a crossing of A9, a 140 meters ascent along steep tracks and crossing of the Allt Lorgy burn- unless a slightly lower route along a mix of farmland and rough forest paths is chosen.
The eastern route (from A95 near Deshar school via the Docharn farm area) involves a 100 meters steep ascent up to Docharn and a steep descent towards Carrbridge. Farm animals, with- or without their “babies” might also be encountered on these routes.

I would welcome the opportunity to cycle from Carrbridge to Aviemore for shopping and leisure purposes without the need to travel on the B9153 and A95 carriageway. As things stand, I am forced to make this journey by car, or cycle over the very steep hill via Docharn, which still requires cycling on the A95. I will not cycle this route. I am not alone in this sentiment.
The road between Carrbridge and Kinvechy junction is particularly difficult for cyclists and for car drivers. This is a road which twists and has a number of blind bends. On many occasions, I have been driving along the B9153 and encountered cars or even lorries coming toward me on the wrong side of the road while trying to overtake cyclists. This risks accidents and potential fatalities. Overtaking on this section of the road is difficult, due to the number of blind bends. It is amazing that more drivers and cyclists have not been injured or worse. This is an area which attracts and welcomes tourists in cars and on bicycles. Their lack of knowledge of this road increases the risk further, as they are not aware of the hazards.
I would far prefer to cycle to Aviemore from my home here, but will not put myself at risk by doing so. The sooner this plan is approved, the better for all concerned. Lives are at risk here.

And we would again please ask that construction commences as soon as possible and as a matter of urgency. We would also please request that top priority is given to the three mile section from Carrbridge to Kinveachy junction running alongside the B9153. There has been overwhelming support for an NMU alongside this stretch of road with it top of the village development plan list for at least the past decade. This is an extremely dangerous and increasingly busy road with blind bends and relatively narrow sections. It is busy with cars, buses, tourist coaches and lorries as well as a stream of vehicles heading for Landmark — one of the top tourist attractions in the Highlands. There have recently new housing developments in Carrbridge adding to the number of vehicles travelling along the B9153. It is also used as an alternative route when the A9 is closed due to accidents. Grave concern has been expressed by motorists about suddenly either encountering cyclists or slowed traffic queued behind cyclists. By the same token cyclists take their life in their hands risking pedalling this stretch of road. It is only time before there is a fatal accident. The B 9153 is marked as part of the Sustrans main Route 7 and also marked as a Hi-Trans cyclists travel route. We feel it is irresponsible to be directing cyclists to use this dangerous stretch of road. For both local residents and visiting tourists, an NMU would be our off road link to neighbouring communities bringing with it all the benefits of active travel, connectivity and economic impact helping support our local café and village shops. We hope planning will be speedily approved and efforts will be made for work to be started on the NMU immediately and in advance of the next stage of the A9 dualling with priority given to the Carrbridge to Kinveachy section along the B9153.
