The scale of the pro­posed build­ing would visu­ally dom­in­ate much of the vil­lage centre. In par­tic­u­lar, the addi­tion of two storeys plus a pitched roof would obscure the very attract­ive views towards Craigel­lach­ie from Grampi­an Road and the centre of Aviemore. This would sig­ni­fic­antly detract from the char­ac­ter of the vil­lage, mak­ing it less attract­ive for both loc­al people and visitors.

Com­ments from AVCC on the above, per Stephanie’s email of 7 Novemeber.

Aviemore and Vicin­ity CC wishes to main­tain it’s objec­tion to this devel­op­ment. We note that the revised design is slightly lower than the ori­gin­al pro­pos­al. How­ever the replace­ment of a pitched roof with a large glass fron­ted bar and res­taur­ant area does noth­ing to address our ori­gin­al con­cerns, and is aes­thet­ic­ally even worse. The pro­posed ​“sky bar” and cir­cu­lar can­ti­levered sec­tion are par­tic­u­larly incon­gru­ous, and would dom­in­ate views of cent­ral Aviemore. We also have con­cerns about the poten­tial for noise dis­turb­ance from any such facility.

Hi Emma,

AVCC dis­cussed the revised applic­a­tion on Thursday even­ing. I’ve just tried to sub­mit fur­ther com­ments on-line, but the sys­tem won’t let me.

In any case, the CC still feels that the pro­pos­als are inap­pro­pri­ate in the con­text of the centre of Aviemore. The scale and bulk would dom­in­ate the sur­round­ings, and the pro­posed ter­race would over­look the vil­lage centre, intrud­ing on oth­ers. We do wel­come the pitch­ing of the roof, which helps to mit­ig­ate the worst of the visu­al impact. We are also con­cerned that the bound­ary of the over­all pro­posed devel­op­ment appears to impact on the site of the com­munity run ice rink oper­ated by AGCT.

Our pre­vi­ous objec­tion stands.
