Comment Details Commenter Type: Member of Public Stance: Customer objects to the Planning Application Comment Reasons: Comment:This is a provisional objection pending receipt of further information. I appreciate the difficulties that Glen Shee faces, particularly after a run of poor snow winters in the east and that there is a need to find ways to sustain the centre in the future. I also acknowledge the facilities that the centre provides for the general public and what for most of the time anyway has been a generally positive welcome for hill walkers, ski mountaineers etc. The Supporting Statement refers to the zip wire as being the first of several developments. The CNPA needs to establish whether these developments are in total of a nature that a masterplan is required, as at Cairn Gorm, or whether the potential cumulative impact of planning applications will be slight. Second, there is no information about when the proposed zip wire will be operated (eg for how many season etc), how many people are expected to use it and whether this will have an impact on any of the other activities that take place at Glen Shee. Third and related to this there is no analysis of the impact that the weather, including wind speeds will have on this. Fourth, nothing is said about the potential for ice to accumulate on the wire and fall on skiers/boarders in winter. In my view this information might usefully be set out in supporting business and operational plan which would then enable an informed decision to be taken about the development. I note that in the EIA Screening Option document of 05/11/2020 Section 4. Population and Human Health, question states 4.1 Will there be any risk of major accidents etc? and the Answer is NO. I believe that is wrong on two counts and should be addressed. First because of the risk of ice falling on skiers referred to above. Second because there have been accidents involving people on zipwires colliding with birds. Given the numbers of red grouse in the coire, that would appear possible here.
