Monthly beaver update - February 2026

This document contains an update on beaver activity in the Cairngorms National Park for February 2026, reporting a total population of 58 beavers, including those wild-born in 2024 and 2025 and animals released over the past three years. Beavers are actively present across many sites within the National Park, such as Rothiemurchus, various Wildland areas, Insh Marshes, Inshriach, Loch Morlich, and the Aviemore area, with observations including a newly released family of five and tree felling. Activity is also noted in surrounding areas like Kingussie Grazings, Cromdale, Boat of Garten, and Grantown. The Park Authority regularly monitors these sites through patrols and addresses specific concerns, such as beaver activity near planted trees. They are also actively raising public awareness and understanding of beavers through engagements with various groups, including wildlife guides and advisory bodies, and communicate directly with landowners if beavers are unexpectedly found on their property, utilizing dedicated messaging groups for ongoing updates.
