Performance Paper 4 - Peatland Action Programme

This document contains an update on the Cairngorms Peatland ACTION Programme, highlighting strong progress in peatland restoration efforts. For 2025/26, the Park Authority is on track to exceed its target by restoring approximately 1,700 hectares of peatland, and has already restored a total of 6,600 hectares since 2022, meeting a key National Park Partnership Plan target ahead of schedule. For 2026/27, the programme aims to restore a further 1,400 hectares with a provisional allocation of £4.205 million from the Scottish Government. Although demand for projects now exceeds the available budget, the Park Authority is managing this by prioritising efforts and maintaining sufficient staffing and contractor capacity, ensuring continued contributions towards broader Scottish peatland restoration goals.
