Visitor Infrastructure Improvement Fund
The Cairngorms National Park Authority has funding available to help plan and install appropriate visitor infrastructure in the Park that helps maintain the special qualities people come to enjoy within the National Park, including our local communities, our diverse wildlife and our rich cultural heritage.
The Cairngorms National Park is the largest National Park and is home to one quarter of the UK’s rare and endangered species. Around 19,000 people live in the National Park and it enjoys an estimated 2 million visitors. These visitors forming the bedrock of the economy of the Park. Both residents and visitors alike have visited this special place for generations, attracted by the landscape, culture, nature and extensive opportunities for outdoor recreation.

During and after the Covid-19 pandemic the Park saw significant changes in visitor distribution and behavior in the National Park, and across Scotland, due to the easing of lockdown policies and the desire of visitors to experience the outdoors and nature. Significant new pressures were put on certain locations in the National Park.
Visitor Infrastructure Improvement Programme funding helps unlock the potential sites across the Park to welcome visitors as well as address those negative impacts of visitor pressures on communities and popular locations.
