Get a better view of the Green Lochan – new access path gets approval
Access to the Green Lochan in Glenmore Forest Park is to be improved after the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) granted planning permission at its latest meeting today (Friday 27 May).
Meeting in Newtonmore Village Hall, the planning committee approved the plans submitted by Forestry Commission Scotland to improve the path and steps leading to the popular beauty spot as well as the construction of a new wooden viewing platform, giving people a much better visitor experience.
Local CNPA board member, Willie McKenna said: “The beauty of the Green Lochan makes it a really popular place with walkers and we want them to enjoy this area responsibly. The proposed improvements will encourage people to keep to the paths, conserving the area and allowing people to view this distinctive Lochan safely.”
Lochan Uaine – to use the gaelic name – is also known as the Fairy Loch, with legend saying that it got its distinctive colour because its where the local fairies washed their clothes! It’s located on the Ryvoan Pass – an important drovers route through the Cairngorms.
