Glenmore and Strath Nethy wildfire update - 27 July at 19:15
Progress has been made today in tackling the wildfire but there is still a lot of work to do.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have reported that, though there is a reduction in visible flames, large areas are still smouldering, and burning continues deep in the ground. Around 70 firefighters remain on scene, with nine fire appliances, specialist wildfire resources and wildfire tactical advisors.
Helicopters, sourced and funded by Forestry and Land Scotland, have remained on the scene all day and aerial resource will also be on site tomorrow. They will continue to water-bomb key hotspots, assisted by thermal drone operators from the Park Authority.
Members of the public, walkers and visitors are urged to continue to avoid affected areas in Glenmore, Abernethy and Loch Morlich, which remain unsafe due to active firefighting operations.
Earlier today, our CEO Grant Moir and Board Convener Sandy Bremner met with Gillian Martin (Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs) and Highlands and Islands MSP Arianne Burgess. After meeting at Forest Lodge and viewing the affected area from a safe distance, they went onwards to Nethy Bridge to speak to a gathering of community, business and public sector leaders. Discussions focused on the impact of the fire on the local community and on businesses in the area.
Highland Council also convened a business recovery group - attended by Park Authority representatives and other public sector agencies - looking at economic support and recovery beyond the immediate incident.

The Cairngorms Business Partnership is also working to support the wider recovery effort, reaching out to businesses across the area and coordinating feedback.
The response to this incident is ongoing; however, partners are working closely together to consider immediate and longer term next steps, and this work will continue over the coming days and weeks.

There is an ongoing wildfire situation at Glenmore within the Cairngorms National Park. Click here for all the latest. We would encourage members of the public to follow current guidance and be aware that the situation may change.
Due to the this wildfire incident, the following paths and routes are closed:
- All the paths around Loch Morlich, Glenmore and Badaguish are closed.
- The Ryvoan pass is closed, this includes all access to the Green Lochan (Lochan Uaine).
- Routes providing access to Cairngorm Mountain, the Northern Corries, Meall A’Bhuachaille, Strath Nethy and Bynack more should be avoided.
- The Abernethy Forest area to the south of Forest Lodge and towards Ryvoan bothy is closed.
