Young people in the Cairngorms National Park are encouraged to apply for funding that could boost their skills, bring people together or kickstart a new career.

The Cairngorms Youth Local Action Group (YLAG) will distribute £5,000 to individuals under the age of 30 in its eighth round of funding.

The Cairngorms YLAG aims to act as a voice for young people in the National Park, empowering them to share and develop ideas that lead to proactive participation in decision-making. The team also runs the Cairngorms YLAG Fund through the Cairngorms Trust. 

Past funding rounds have given grants towards events, artist residencies, first aid workshops, photographic equipment, forest bathing qualifications and woodworking tools.

The current round is aimed at individuals only, with a maximum of £500 available to each recipient.

The fund will support projects or activities that tackle priorities including health and wellbeing, sustainability and the climate emergency, skills development, inclusion and under-represented groups, as well as arts, culture and nature connection. 

The fund has a deadline of September 27. Decisions will be taken in October by members of the Cairngorms YLAG. Projects should be completed by April 20, 2027.

"This fund is a platform for youth empowerment, enabling young people to shape their futures and have a positive impact on the communities and landscapes of the Cairngorms. I look forward to seeing the next round of projects coming to life." 

Anna Fleming, Cairngorms Youth Action Co-ordinator said, “The YLAG are excited to launch this latest round of funding and support a new round of projects by young people in the Cairngorms. The team are keen to receive applications from all ages under 30, especially those still in school and under the age of 18.”
