What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? The speed bumps (or another appropriate traffic-slowing measure) at the Deshar Road end of the village are very welcome. Currently exiting traffic begins accelerating out of the village well before the 'lorry park', and entering traffic is regularly still travelling in excess of 30mph at the same point. All proposed step-free crossings and lowered, textured paving would, in my view, be beneficial to people moving around the village - except the one outside the Shop & Post Office (see next section).
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? The proposed raised crossing of Deshar Road outside the Post Office is hazardous. This small section of road includes the bend onto Spey Avenue/Drumuillie Road (at which larger vehicles must take up the majority of the carriageway), the junction with Kinchurdy Road, the entrance to the Boat Hotel car park, and access to the houses adjacent to the Post Office. People regularly park outside the Post Office and many will continue to do so, even if double yellow lines should be painted there, thus blocking drivers' views of crossing pedestrians and vice versa. There is too much going on in a small space to make this a location where people are encouraged to cross, unless that crossing is signal controlled. Aside from the safety aspect, reducing the available parking spaces directly outside the Post Office disadvantages those who must drive there due to mobility concerns and is likely to have an impact on the number of passing vehicles stopping to use the shop. Boat of Garten is very fortunate to have a resource like our Shop & Post Office and we residents very much wish it to remain successful.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes

Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Unrealistic and not safe
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? The crossing at the shop does not take into account the bell entrance on the right of the proposed crossing which feeds the short term let and bungalow on one side and the hotel staff accommodation on the other. The hotel can accommodate about ten people there, some of whom have cars, as well as being used as the hotel staff car park. There is also the gallery, with off road parking, a bus stop and an entrance for the shop flat, a house and bungalow on the other side of the shop. To add to the busy area Kinchurdy Road and the hotel and their parking area are on the other side of the road. Traffic is coming from all directions - very unsafe.
The drop kerb plan on Church road will narrow an already busy junctionDo you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? No
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Slow the traffic, put a crossing further up the street ie. a zebra crossing obliging vehicles to stop.

How do you usually travel around Boat of Garten? (Select all that apply)- Walking

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Neutral
Please explain your answer (Optional)Pavements require maintenance and dropped kerbs at appropriate services/facilities in village. A crossing midway through village, with dual purpose of being raised to slow vehicles. Address the constant daily non compliance of the restricted speed limit of 20mph and place traffic management at both ends of village. Address cyclists using the pavements in village as cycle path ends at recycle area. Improve lighting.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Better lighting
- More crossings
- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Positive idea of implementing traffic management in village and introducing ways to promote the village amenities and improve accessibility and erect clear signage. Improvements to access road for Milton Loch car park , with a sign highlighting the route/areas of interest and a no overnight parking sign.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? The main issues on Deshar Road are parking of vehicles all day at various points , but in particular at hotspots at Andersons, Post Office and Boat Hotel, which results in dangerous driving and drivers taking risks and becoming frustrated and impatient, which creates risks to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. The village main street has increased traffic and parking on the main street in and out of village.
Remove the increased parking which restricts traffic flow with parking restrictions, single yellow line on both sides of road with no parking 8am - 6pm, with a marked area of exception at Post Office for perhaps 2/3 cars and the delivery vehicles to park for access to P.O. onlyDo you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? To increase safety on pavements of pedestrians with all abilities, ages and backgrounds. To erect signage which is simple, clear and effective in promoting the village amenities and services.
Remove pavement use in village by cyclists by implementing traffic flow management and reducing speed to the stated 20mph in village. Cyclists will be safer on the roads with full width of both lanes available to car drivers and cyclists, and pedestrians will be much safer on the pavements. -

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Neutral
Please explain your answer (Optional)The straight road into the village enables a good road view when crossing on foot but the speed of traffic can seem excessive.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Speed reduction measures on the straight road well before approaching housing and a safe crossing to Craigie Avenue from that end of the village would enable all users to more safely access the Community Hall, Playpark, forest tracks and crucially the cycle track to Deshar Primary School.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? Not sure
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Traffic speed can be deceptive at a distance and the long straight road may mislead walkers to cross when, in fact, traffic is travelling at excessive speeds. Clear signage is needed for drivers well before approaching housing. Did I imagine that when 20 signs were installed, the road surface signs were still marked 30?

How do you usually travel around Boat of Garten? (Select all that apply)- Walking

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Very unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)When walking in village, cyclists will ride at speed on the " pedestrian use only pavements" which is not permitted by law. Require clear signs at regular intervals in the village to reinforce this pedestrian use only restriction.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? The 20mph speed limit requires to be enforced. Place a traffic light crossing on Deshar Road midway between the two junctions at Grampian Crescent. Place two traffic thresholds in appropriate locations to reduce speed entering both N and S of village, with a 20mph illuminated matrix.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Reduce excessive parking of vehicles on Deshar Road - Double yellow lines on both sides of Deshar Road or introduce specific sections on both sides of road, in particular at the Post Office ( provide two parking bays appropriately marked) and also outside Andersons ( use of village car parks and side roads only )There are frequent incidents of drivers speeding up to outrun oncoming traffic and last minute overtaking of parked cars causing oncoming cars to brake to avoid collisions.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Use the funding to manage the use of pavements and the main road of the village to achieve safe road traffic management and user friendly pedestrian only pavements.

Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Whilst I appreciate the potential need to slow traffic i don't agree with the speed bumps being suggested for adjacent to the shop and Kinchurdy Road, these will hinder access off Kinchurdy Road and limit parking at the shop
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?I don't believe that speed bumps are necessary in Boat of Garten, however I think some speed limiting measures might be beneficial on the outskirts to reduce speeds coming into the town. Speed bumps will make Boat an unattractive option to visit, therefore reducing the communities economy
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Wheeled access, dropped kerbs, wider pavements, highly visible crossings (if needed)

How do you usually travel around Boat of Garten? (Select all that apply)- Cycling
How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)For cycling, cars through the village ignore the speed limit and at the bend by the Boat Hotel it always seems like there is a risk of collision.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Speed bumps are not the solution drivers too focussed on them and not on other road users and pedestrians. Have you considered speed activated traffic lights - we see these in Spain and Portugal and they are very effective - they stay green when you are below the speed limit and go red if you are speeding so they encourage responsible driving.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat

How do you usually travel around Boat of Garten? (Select all that apply)- Walking

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Neutral
Please explain your answer (Optional)Dependent entirely on the weather. This 2026 Winter snow clearance on paths and gritting has been sporadic and ineffective after the trcator broke down and snow froze to large mounds of ice on the path. Work to re-instate by Highland Broadband after they carved up the pavements was done with a very smooth grade of tarmac - no grip at all.
Pavements do not appear to have relaid since 1987 are in a bad state anyway and there are few inadequately placed drop kerbs - I used to push elderly relative to the local shop etc, very ahrd work! What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Other
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? This is work that needs doing urgently.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Consider the whole question of winter gritting on domestic roads - given the way the climate now is gritting needs to be done BEFORE any frost or snow to give the salt a chance, not just on bus routes etc. but on residential roads too. The cost of surgery for the older folks after a fall as the population ages, and the need for key workers to get to employment, NHS, teachers etc. and for care workers to reach clients safely should all come into decisions about gritting. At present the arrangements are inadequate and only considered if one has to complain to County Councillirs who must be fed up with constant E Mails.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Look at the village as a whole not just the main roads. there are old, dilapidated raod signs, some completely unnecessary which should be removed. Who needs a sign pointing to the village when they are already in it as is the case when approaching Boat from under the railway bridge!

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Its a busy little hub. You have a confluence of businesses and the junction to Kinchurdy road. The traffic generally sorts its self out. Problems only occur when cars are parked on the south side of road (normally by visitors who dont know better) you have to approach with caution and just slow down.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherPutting double yellow line between Strathspey park junction down to hotel corner and perhaps another 100 metres beyond, would be a big help. 90% of cars already park on the safer side of road (village shop and art gallery) As mentioned, its the odd ones on other side that causes issues.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Looks expensive but thorough. My only addition was the relatively low cost yellow lines.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? As mentioned
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Maje sure changes are easy for motorists to understand. I have noticed other projects that are trying to please everyone and end up being over engineered and confusing.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)I live in Street of Kincardine. Some stretches of the road between there and the village centre have no pavement or alternative footpath and are also outside the 20mph speed limit
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic
- Wider pavements
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? They are fine but do not address my needs
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Street of Kincardine is part of the village but seems to be ignored when it comes to planning improvements. Improved signage and any sort of pavements would be an improvement, though a path from the bridge across the field by the river would be ideal.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? Not an area I am qualified to comment on, being able bodied.

What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?I live on the edge of Boat of Garten in Drumuillie and access into the village involves crossing and walking along the edge of the A95. The suggested project area seems to be one of the better provided for areas of the village... The main street
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Looking beyond this core area and focussing on the connection too it.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? No
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?variety of activities, e.g horse riding. lack of parking outside the post office also means that the narrow pavements aren't able to accomodate for wheelchairs, buggys and pedestrians.

Please explain your answer (Optional)The pavements are not in great condition since before the new broadband lines were put in.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherI don't think they need to be wider, but they need to be maintained.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Have the speed levels been monitored since the introduction of the 20mph limits? There has been a significant difference in the speed - with most traffic sticking to the limits - are speed bumps really needed as well?
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Adding in raised crossing at Chruch Drive is insane - there is already congestion there. The problem isn't speed. Double yellow lines round the corners might be better - so people don't park too near the junction. Surely lowering the kerbs is easier and less money than inserting raied crossings everywhere - the changes to Deshar Road are almost comparable to a busy street in the city - do we really need that many? A raised crossing near the Hotel is crazy - in my opinion. Traffic is not fast in that area - the sharp corner sees to that. I would never allow children or encourage the elderly to cross there - I always advise either further down the road, part the corner onto to Spey Avenue or further up the road past the bus stop and 1896 Gallery. I get that issues raised at the community consultation are being considered, but I think it's really important to consider how many people attend these consultations and how many comments are needed for a change to be made. If one person asks FOR a raised crossing, and one person asks for a dropped crossing.... where does the decision come from? It looks to me that smoe of the raised areas would be adding to the congestion of already busy areas... or just pushing a problem further along the road. This needs rethought!
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? It's absolutely key to be inclusive, but some of the positioning of the crossings do not make sense - especially for those that can't walk quickly or make clear decisions about when and where to cross.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)We have very young kids so frequently have them in a buggy or walk to park, cycle to school etc. the traffic is very fast, not 20mph. Particularly along the straight Deshar road where the green/Grampian crescent is. People do not break after entering the village until they get to the speed flashing sign which is far too late.
Pavements tend to be fairly narrow which when traffic is fast can be difficult as a parent. What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Great, well done!
Ideally I want a safe crossing from the top end of the village across Deshar road, to catch all the kids from the otherside of the road who need to cross for school or the park. Ideally this would be the top end of Deshar road/ on the green. Lots of children live in this area and need to cross.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?I would like flashing speed limit signs like we have at the bus stop already but at the entrance to the village or perhaps 10-15m in. Where they are is too late.
I think speed bumps will work well however people will still speed along the flat straight area of Deshar road when leaving or entering if there is only one bump at the entrance. I think you need another set at the start of the green/Grampian crescent or slightly along.Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? No suggestions

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Very safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)The traffic is not fast. There are some natural speed restrictions eg the corner, the shop parking, other parked vehicles
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherNone, it’s already ok
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? Not sure they are required. Maybe just one set of yellow lines at the bottom of kinchurdy road and one side of deshar road.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?I think there are more important things to spend money on. Eg the pavement and cycleway out of the village to Nethy, maintaining the connection to carrbridge, cycle path on the a95.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? Not sure
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? It’s a quiet village, am missing the need for more traffic control. It will always be a through village but that helps to maintain us having such a brilliant shop.
Maybe more parking somehow. -

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)The biggest problem is that many drivers ignore the 20mph speed limit especially when entering and leaving the village from either end. You have not included Nethybridge Road in this and this is the worst stretch as people speed over the bridge and right up past the golf club and only lower their speed when they approach the corner. There is not pavement adjacent the back of the tennis courts thus you have to cross to the pavement on the other side if you wish to do the riverside walk.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic

What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? They seem ok but I’d hate to see too much signage as this can ruin an area and also use of different coloured or textured materials as this can ruin a village feel and make it like Disneyland.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Add in Nethybridge Road and any road references to the old speed limit of 30mph and even put in electric speed signs to alert drivers that they are speeding!
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Don’t have any proposals

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)A large percentage of cars travel much faster than 20mph. The section from the post office to the golf club corner(wrongly called Deshar Drive on the drawing….its actually Nethybridge Road) can be very unsafe especially now as there are young children living there. This area has been completely overlooked. There should be consideration given to slowing vehicles here too and possibly a crossing. Cars treat this section like an airport runway!
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Generally good, slowing vehicles down always good but some attention needs to be given to Drumuillie Rd section after you turn the corner from the post office.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? The section I mention above often has many parked cars using hotel, railway station or just walkers. Can be tricky to cross road and cars really travel very fast in this section.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? Not sure
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? Please consider areas more than just Deshar Road.

Please explain your answer (Optional)Roads are not busy in Boat of Garten, always easy to cross roads, including main road
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherImprove connections to the surroundings, e.g. safe cycling routes to Grantown and Carrbridge.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Boat of Garten? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? The current arrangements in the centre of village are good. It is the routes at edges of village and connections to further routes which need improved, e.g. to Golf Club, to farm road & paths along the river. Walking or cycling along Nethybridge Road accross the bridge to access the paths to Loch Garten from the car park on B970 is hazardous.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Put your efforts on improving connections to and from the village, the village centre's arrangements are fine.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? No
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Concentrate on how villagers can get out of Boat of Garten walking or cycling, and how visitors can come here without using a car.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Neutral
Please explain your answer (Optional)The pavements need to be upgraded for the use of a wheelchair or buggy.
A cyclist should not be using the pavements for obvious safety issues. Roads need to be upgraded for car use and cyclists - Highlanders need and use their cars and certainly in rural areas, cars and good public transport need maintained roads. I certainly need a car to make my way safely around the valley and having upgraded roads with good parking is more essential than making extra space for cyclists and removing parking - even more so because of the recent snow and storms that we have had, how many cyclists have been out and about cycling around the areas. The priority should be improving the area and maintaining the roads but not for the minority of cyclists. What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Better lighting
- More crossings

Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Improve parking around the area so that we can access areas.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? No
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? You are not interested in anything apart from
removing cars from the road which is ridiculous in rural areas where people need and use their cars. Most families have 2 or more cars for reasons that suit their own personal circumstances!
