08 January 2026What is your connection to Aviemore? (Select all that apply)
- I live near Aviemore (within 10 miles)
How do you usually travel around Aviemore? (Select all that apply)- Car passenger
How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Very unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Pedestrian pavements are being used by cyclists and are passing people at very close proximity, occasionally swerving around them not giving adequate space for safety and do not slow down. The pedestrian pavements are not permitted to be used by cyclists at any time. Cyclists can use only legitimate identified cycle paths and also roads. There are available alternative routes in Aviemore and the Highway Code gives Cyclists significant entitlements when using roads.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherRemove cyclists from pedestrian pavements with the signage staying this all along the entire route as your proposals indicate in relation to signage.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? There is no requirement to expand pavements for shared pedestrian and cycle use. There is no requirement to build separate cycle lanes on an already narrow road in and out of Aviemore as there are alternative cycle routes into the village. The road requires to provide motorised vehicles of all types, not just standard cars - with various excess width, length, and height e.g HGV, large buses etc to travel within that limited road space to access all the village services/amenities
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Improve the already available cycle routes that surround village . Improve pavement surfaces for wheelchair users, buggies, disabled persons with walking aids etc and just pedestrians in general. Consider options of any additional crossings necessary to enable traffic speed and flow to be more safe for pedestrians etc.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? No
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? There is a need to implement more disabled friendly specifics in the proposal - e.g Legal Blue Badge parking and lowered pavement areas in appropriate areas for wheelchair users. Parking areas on main road to have painted bays to manage the regular chaotic parking of vehicles and be cars only. Signage to indicate where large motorhomes and accommodation vehicles and larger vehicles can day time park to access shops, amenities and services in village.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited?Do not even consider this as an option. There are alternative routes available to cyclists to access the village without the need to use the main road for their entire journey in to and out of Aviemore.
1. Myrtlefield- Wayfinding signage to key destinations
2. Land at St Andrews Church- Wayfinding signage to key destinations
3. War memorial- Nothing / not sure
4. Community access hospital entrance- More seating and resting areas
- Wayfinding signage to key destinations
Are there any other locations you would like to see changes incorporated?Remove parking by motorhomes and accommodation vehicles during day and overnight in Myrtlefield.
Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area?Respect the established uses of roads and pedestrian pavements and enhance/improve their condition. Improve alternative non motorised transport pathways/routes that surround Aviemore to enable single points in that journey that connects to the services in village e.g Hospital, Shops etc

- I live in Aviemore
How do you usually travel around Aviemore? (Select all that apply)- Walking
- Car driver
How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Crossing roads is generally safe because the traffic volumes are low and general travel at low speeds. Most paving surfaces in Aviemore are in a parlous state which must be awful for the elderly and wheelchair users.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherRoads, pavements and existing crossings are in great need of refurbishment.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveNo
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Stop wasting money on a talking shop. Refurbish the existing infrastructure.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Campervans should not be allowed to overnight in the town centre.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds? Not sure
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? Two way cycle tracks are counter-intuitive to pedestrians trying to cross the road, i.e. pedestrians look towards the oncoming traffic and would not anticipate bikes coming in the opposite direction. A better option would be to route cyclists to the quiet road east of the railway station.

- I regularly visit Aviemore to access shops and services
How do you usually travel around Aviemore? (Select all that apply)- Car driver
How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Crossing the road at busy times can be a challenge with kids. Cycling through the village feels somewhat safe, although you can feel the odd driver wants to pass you to go that little be faster - the 20mph limit helps reduce this need for drivers since implementation.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Slower traffic
- Segregated cycle lanes
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? They're excellent and would go some way to improving the sustainable travel environment.
The cycle parking location is ideal - it is visible therefore increase security, also being visible to the shops at the village centre (tesco area) is good. Clear signage of other bike parking facilities might be useful. Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? On shared road/cycle routes, I would focus on creating road design that prioritise sustainable transport, so that drivers don't feel the need to squeeze past/perception to drive slower is enhanced, and give those not in cars priority/visibility.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? As a parent of young children with bikes, it is always concerning traveling on narrow pavement which leads to pushing pedestrians close to the road, especially where drivers are perhaps squeezed (or absent-mindedly drive) close to the pavement. Any design that avoids this would be a benefit. It's the same where pushing a buggy or somebody using mobility aid is on the pavement in this situation.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? It should be avoided where possible or road design needs to prioritise cycles - a single lane segregated bike lane might be more appropriate. I would guess that cycle traffic volume would allow 'passing places' or cycles to squeeze past each other in a safer (or less stressful) manner than going on the road. The necessary cycle road crossings to get onto the road located bike lane require careful consideration so that bike travel is coherent, efficient and does not require stopping for traffic for too long (to ensure it's use by cycles).

4. Community access hospital entrance- Wayfinding signage to key destinations
- Plants / trees / shrubs
Where would you like to see additional road crossings provided? (Pick all that apply)- Location 1 - Myrtlefield
- Location 2 - Grampian Road North
Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area?Cycle tourists would be a significant number of users of these facilities. Encouraging them to this location, as a place to rest and recharge before moving on/find accommodation would increase the number of cycles and therefore help to increase cycle awareness and culture for all users. Good seating area and bike security would help this.
Roads are often meeting places, slowing traffic increases perception of safety and is shown that people will spend more time in the area (around shops and cafes etc). Slowing traffic in areas with high footfall, or enhancing the area to feel more pedestrianised, would improve these areas and positively effect the village centre. -

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Some cars pass very close to you on the road.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Better lighting
- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?I think the widening of the bus stops is a good idea/ more bus stops. However I dont feel that having a designated cycle lane through the center of the village is the right way forward.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? There is already a perfectly good back road for cyclists at Dalnabay. Which allows you access to the centre via the police station crossing. Could that cycle route (which I believe is part of cycle network 7) be widened with better street lights and with more crossings enabling people to access Aviemore.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? That if you are in a car coming from a junction onto Aviemore main street, you are going to have to go over a pavement/ walking lane and a cycle lane before crossing onto the main road. This is both dangerous for the walkers and cyclists and the car user
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? Its the wrong thing to do and the wrong approach
1. Myrtlefield- Improved lighting

- Other (please specify)
Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area?I think there needs to be a crossing somewhere near Aldi. As in on the road going into Aldi. There is already like a bit of a crossing just after the roadabout but it is not marked for cars to see etc,

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Difficult and not welcoming with buggy/pushchair. Pavement and cycle provision could be better. Traffic already often slow but busy.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
- Segregated cycle lanes
- Wider pavements
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Very supportive of the proposal, suggest adding marked cycle lanes through town centre (on carriageway), to reduce cyclists on pavements and make it more of a joined up scheme
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Tactile paving, clear routes/paths/direction, rather than paths starting/stopping and dissappearing
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited?Agree, but must have white lining on road to show cycleway and so it is a continuous route, otherwise doesn't achieve the original aims

What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- More crossings
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Seem to prioritise cycling at the expense of other forms of travel.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Better public transport and more parking (esp blue badge parking)
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? Many people with limited mobility rely on cars - need more disabled parking at key spots.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? These are busy roads and need space for 2 cars / buses / gritters / lorries to pass each other. None of the designs seem to show show any vehicles larger than cars using the road - bit misleading when traffic is often snarled up due to larger vehicles.

How do you usually travel around Aviemore? (Select all that apply)- Walking
- Cycling
- Car driver
How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat unsafe
Please explain your answer (Optional)There are far too many speeding drivers. The 20mph limit is almost universally disregarded.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Better lighting
- More crossings
- Slower traffic
- Segregated cycle lanes
- Wider pavements
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? These improvements are absolutely essential. We need more people to be walking, cycling and wheeling as there is a ticking timebomb of obesity and related conditions such as diabetes. Getting people moving under their own steam is one way to address this. Additionally, climate changes mean that fewer people should be driving, particularly for shorter journeys.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? No.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Make sure that these improvements actually get implemented.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited?I think that a two way bike lane is essential. Roads were not built for cars and I’m sick to death of hearing the “road tax” argument. There’s been no such thing, for about 90 years now.

Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area? There needs to be enforcement of the speed limits. I’m fed up of being tailgated while I’m driving, having close passes while cycling and having to run across the roads due to selfish speeding drivers.
There should also be a dedicated pelican crossing on the Glenmore Road. The stupid speed humps at the fishery are absolutely ludicrous and totally ineffective. -

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)I use the e dusting cycling infrastructure (route 1) that runs north south parallel to the main road & keeps me away from traffic.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Other
OtherUtilise the existing sting route 1, don't mix cars with bikes, improve the number of access point across (east west) between the routes.
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Any cyclist using a dedicated cycle lane north south would give up due to the number of pinch points & junctions that would have to be negotiated. It would be quicker to ride on the road, car drivers wi then get more agitated by cyclists not using the cycle path & we will he in a worse position than before.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Cyclists going north/south will find the whole experience frustrating & avoid it due to pinch points & the numerous side rads they will have to stop at look both ways & /or where they get wiped out by a car turning across them.
Route 1 could be improved to provide a truly separate provision serving all users better. Improve the connections across.Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?See my other answers.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Somewhat safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)Safe walking, but cycling through Aviemore isn't much fun!
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic
- Segregated cycle lanes
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?I would welcome the separate cycle line as an occasional cyclist. I'm not sure how much safer I'd actually feel though - is there really enough room?
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? As above, not convinced about the space available. Also, we still get a significant amount of "unnecessary" HGV traffic coming along Grampian Road, (i.e. diverting through Aviemore to stop for toilet, refreshments etc) which adds to the pressure.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? As in previous answers. I also think this may increase tensions between drivers and other road users.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Very safe
Please explain your answer (Optional)The traffic is very slow and the main road very easy to cross. Biggest difficulty is too many other pedestrians at times.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Wider pavements
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?A 6.0m carriageway would only be wide enough for passenger cars to comfortably pass as the average car now exceeds 2m in width including mirrors. Commercial vehicles and coaches can be closer to 3m including mirrors so, if you wish to avoid frequent minor collisions I would suggest 7m is a more appropriate width. I fail to see the need for a separate cycleway as I rarely see a cyclist on this road. Addition of a cycleway is unlikely to significantly increase the number of cyclists, particularly heading to the community hospital where the majority of patients are either working people in a hurry to return to work (so driving) or the elderly who are unlikely to switch from driving to cycling. Accessing the hospital safely would have been less of an issue if they had thought through accessibility at the planning stage and not sited the hospital so far from the centre of the village.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? You do not. You might consider instead the needs of the majority of users rather than focus solely on the needs of a minority of users.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? Not impressed. On the narrower section I would suggest that the additional space be allocated to the roadway. A narrow roadway and a wide pavement will encourage cyclists to ride instead on the pavement creating a hazard for pedestrians.

Where would you like to see additional road crossings provided? (Pick all that apply)- Location 2 - Grampian Road North
- Location 3 - Dalfaber Road East
Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area?An additional crossing at Myrtlefield seems pointless as most people ignore it. Relocating the existing crossing to the other location might make sense as current crossing is too close to the roundabout and causes traffic issues in the roundabout

Please explain your answer (Optional)NCN& is an excellent way in to Aviemore but bike access along the main street can feel unsafe at times - frustrated close passing vehicles
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Segregated cycle lanes
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals? The cycleways would be a huge improve so long as the access on and off road flow rather than a 'start/stop' situation
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?Easy flow for walkers and cyclits
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible?Flowing design that allows appropriate continuous non motorised movement regardless of type
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited?Traffic calming can work if well designed and not necessarily bumps - France has many options of road slowing by visual narrowing of roads

What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Slower traffic
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?Looks impressive, but unsure how this will be achieved with 1 road going through Aviemore. The disaster of the lights being installed at the dalfaber turning a few years back MUST be avoided. It was a total shambles and a real kick in the teeth for locals. Almost like we didn't matter.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider? How to achieve this while the very busy village functions. It's okay putting up traffic lights and saying get on with it. But why should we be inconvenienced so badly
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Somewhat
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? It's 1 street in a very busy village. Constant flow of traffic is required. People need to get back and for through the village for work etc.
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited?Impossible!! No way this can be achieved without shutting down the village. When ? The village is busy 11 months of the year. Of course if we don't care about locals it's fine

- Cycle parking
2. Land at St Andrews Church- Wayfinding signage to key destinations
3. War memorial- Nothing / not sure
4. Community access hospital entrance- More seating and resting areas

Are there any other locations you would like to see changes incorporated?A 2nd way through the village to allow a flow if issues on Grampian Road. Double yellows used more on the 1 street through the village to allow the traffic to flow.
Do you have any other comments or ideas to help improve the environment for walking, using a wheelchair, cycling or improving public spaces in the study area? There is enough already, people just don't use them

What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? Is there really enough space for this? And is joining and leaving traffic not more dangerous as people will not look before cycling onto the road.

How safe and comfortable do you currently feel when walking, using a wheelchair, pushing a buggy or cycling in the area?Neutral
Please explain your answer (Optional)It can be hard to cross the road, particularly around the roundabout by Aldi. It feels like cars have priority and some of them drive quite fast so it doesn't always feel safe. I don't really like walking through Aviemore at night - the lighting isn't good in some places.
What improvements would make walking, using a wheelchair, buggy or cycling feel safer for you?- Better lighting
- More crossings
- Slower traffic
- Segregated cycle lanes
- Wider pavements
Have you seen the draft cross sections and artists impressions for Aviemore? They can be viewed aboveYes
What are your initial thoughts on the proposals?I think they look good! Having a separate cycle lane is a good idea.
Are there any concerns or suggestions you would like the project team to consider?I wonder whether there is the width for a cycle lane, path and road in some places. It's important that if these have to meet at any point that pedestrian and cyclist safety is prioritied. It would also be good to have a crossing near the police station as that bit of road never feels too safe to cross.
Do you feel the proposals consider the needs of people with different abilities, ages, and backgrounds?Yes
What do we need to consider to make the designs more inclusive or accessible? It's important to consult on disability access - maybe through the local access panel
What do you think about the approach to providing a two-way cycle track and where space is limited? It's not ideal as moving between the road and a segregated lane might be confusing and cause accidents - but it's possibly the only solution. There's also a worry that cyclists may move onto the pavement as cause issue for pedestrians?
