Dance your feet off – Thigibh A Dhannsa!

A first Fèis activity day in Ballater for primary children in Upper Deeside will culminate in a family community Cèilidh.

The activities, organised by Fèisean a’  Mhonaidh Ruaidh, Cairngorms National Park Authority and Aberdeenshire Council, with funding from Cairngorms LAG, will see the children taking part in a day of music and dance, including Gàidhlig and Doric song, step dance, percussion, whistle and drama.

The day also gives the children the opportunity to display their excellent Gàidhlig project work in Ballater School. Schools in Upper Deeside and Donside have been getting Gàidhlig lessons since 2008 and have become much more aware of their own cultural heritage and history through learning the language.

Fiona McLean, Cultural Heritage Officer, said “This Cèilidh will be a fun event for the whole family, a great way for the children to finish off their day of Fèis activities. It is also a not to be missed opportunity to see the Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail, a group of young musicians who are touring the Cairngorms National Park in July.”

The Cèilidh will be held in Victoria Hall, Ballater on Saturday 5th June and will commence at 3.30pm. Following their activities, the children will be piped to the hall to dance the hour away with their families. The young musicians from the Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail will be providing the music and it will be hosted by Frieda Morrison.
