Events and Transport on the Agenda at National Park Tourism Conference

This year’s Cairngorms Tourism Conference takes place next month and the focus this time is on getting the most out of events and how transport to, from and throughout the Park affects tourism businesses.

The free event takes place on Wednesday 1 November at the Lecht Ski Centre from 10am to 3.45pm and incorporates the Cairngorms Chamber of Commerce AGM.

Anyone involved in tourism in and around the Park can come along for the whole day or just the morning or afternoon sessions depending on what is of particular interest. The morning will focus on the benefit of hosting events and the keynote speaker is Pete Irvine from Unique Events, organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations and Ayrshire’s ‘Burns an Aw That’ Festival.

Transport will be the topic for discussion in the afternoon, focusing on the current transport position and exploring opportunities that could help to improve transport arrangements for everyone living, working and visiting the Park.

The tourism conference is also a good chance for people to find out more about the work of the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) and the Cairngorms Chamber of Commerce.

Heather Galbraith, the CNPA’s Sustainable Tourism Officer said: “Every year there are hundreds of events in the Cairngorms National Park and these help to make the area a vibrant, exciting place for visitors and locals alike.

“We’re particularly pleased to welcome as keynote speaker, Pete Irvine of Unique Events who has a proven track record in successfully managing unique, new and inspirational events, well known throughout Scotland and beyond”.

Chair of the Cairngorms Chamber of Commerce, Patricia Eccles said: “The Chamber regard transport, housing and employment as being fundamental to economic sustainability throughout the National Park and its surroundings and we are working with partners in all of these areas as we see them as being very much inter-linked. Next month’s conference provides everyone with the chance to engage in the discussions on transport.

“Places for the conference are going fast and we appreciate that many people who would like to come, may be left disappointed. For anyone who would like to get involved but is unable to attend, a report on transport will compiled after the event and will be available towards the end of November on the Chamber’s website. Anyone with comments to add to this is encouraged to do so”.
