Glenmore and Strath Nethy wildfire update - 28 July at 6pm
Glenmore and Strath Nethy wildfire update - 28 July at 6pm
Emergency services, alongside partner agencies and volunteers, continue to make progress in suppressing the wildfire.
Road and path closures (listed below) are expected to remain in place around Glenmore and Abernethy over the next few days to allow access for emergency service vehicles and heavy machinery. These restrictions are necessary to keep the public safe while helicopter waterbombing continues, people on the ground fight the fire and clear felled trees and debris.
Throughout this morning, there were reports of smoke in communities some distance away from the wildfire. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that this was due to the low cloud conditions, pushing the smoke lower and further away. Anyone still impacted by the smell of smoke should shut windows and doors.
Helicopters and Park Authority thermal drones are still being used to tackle the fire - it is vital that members of the public do not fly personal drones and other aerial vehicles near the affected area, as this can disrupt operations. Please follow all advice from Police Scotland on drone usage.
We know this ongoing disruption is very difficult for all businesses and communities affected - we will provide further updates as soon as we can.
As ever, we are incredibly grateful to all of those involved in the response.
