Help shape the future of key Aviemore site

People are being invited to have their say on how the Aviemore Highland Resort site should be developed with the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) launching a consultation on a Draft Development Brief for the site this week.

The Aviemore Highland Resort (AHR) is a large site covering 40 hectares in the middle of Aviemore. It currently has a mix of uses including visitor accommodation, retail, recreation and housing.

A draft Development Brief has been prepared by the CNPA to guide future development at AHR, providing a land use and development framework to help inform the preparation of more detailed proposals.

Development briefs are produced in order to provide certainty in the future for both the community and developers and while Development Briefs cannot reconsider whether a site is suitable for development or not – that is for the Local Development Plan (LDP) process – people can influence how sites are developed to meet their needs of their own communities.

Gavin Miles, Head of Planning and Communities at the CNPA explained: “There are a number of sites in the Cairngorms National Park LDP where the principle of development has been established but projects have not yet come to fruition. In Aviemore, the Highland Resort site is such a location yet it remains an area with significant development potential. We are keen to hear what people think should happen on this site – and how it should happen – and would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of Aviemore to make their views known on the draft Development Brief.”

Two drop-in events are taking place where people can find out more information or make comments on the AHR Development Brief. Both events are taking place on the Aviemore Village Green on Thursday 17 August and Tuesday 22 August from 2.30-7.30pm. People can also access the information and take part in the consultation online by visiting the CNPA website.

The deadline for responses is Friday 29 September 2017.
