New leaflets shows the way to paths with easy access

The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) is on the right track with its newly published leaflet showing paths in the Badenoch & Strathspey area that have easy access for everyone.

The guide, produced in partnership with the Badenoch and Strathspey Access Panel and Inclusive Cairngorms identifies 12 easy access paths which are suitable for people who maybe prefer a gentler stroll, those with mobility issues or families with very small children – and by easy access, we mean in terms of smoothness, gradient and distance. Some of the routes highlighted are also convenient for train or bus services.

Inclusive Cairngorms were consulted on the routes to include in the ‘Paths with Easy Access’ guide with the group highlighting the important access information to include, such as surfaces, distances, barriers, disabled parking and toilets.

Inclusive Cairngorms Chairperson, Anne MacLean said: “We were delighted to be involved in the production of this leaflet. We can’t all be intrepid mountaineers but we can all enjoy the Cairngorms National Park and to have information like this to hand will ensure people get the most out of living here or visiting the area.”

Morag Campbell is the Chairperson of the Badenoch and Strathspey Access Panel, she commented: “From Grantown at one end to Laggan at the other end, there is a route for everyone to enjoy in this new guide. It complements other National Park community path leaflets that are available so should be easily identifiable for people to pick up in Visitor Information Centres, ranger bases and local health centres.”

Outdoor Access Officer, Adam Streeter-Smith added: “The core message of the new Active Cairngorms Strategy is about encouraging people to get out and about and be active, regardless of their ability. Having a suite of easy access paths makes this much more achievable for people but being equipped with the information before you go – to make sure you pick a route that is good for you – is essential.”
