TV’s Nick Baker is returning once again for a fantastic family weekend of fun and nature at the Cairngorms Nature Festival 14-15 May

Nick will be joining us in Deeside to host a special family nature event, you can join Nick on the ‘Nature Bus’ in Ballater and take a scenic ride up to Loch Muick to join the Balmoral Rangers for a fun afternoon of nature activities.  Nick will also delight audiences in Aboyne with anecdotes of his experiences as a TV nature presenter and introduce us to some of the more unusual species of the Cairngorms.

Nick Baker said, “I had a great time last year and I am delighted to have been invited back to the Cairngorms Nature Festival, it’s a fantastic weekend with so much to see and do.  If you’ve never been to the Cairngorms National Park it is the place for nature, why not come and see for yourself.”

Cairngorms National Park Authority board member, Katrina Farquhar said “ It is fantastic to see Nick coming to Deeside this year.  We wanted an event that really put Deeside back on the map as open for business after the terrible effects of Storm Frank.  We are grateful to Allan and Black who are donating the coaches to transport Nick and the families up to Loch Muick and I look forward to a great afternoon.”

With dozens of events planned, the festival will be a Park-Wide weekend of celebration where people can get first-hand experience of some of the outstanding wildlife that lives and grows here in the Cairngorms National Park.

There will be something for all the family, children will delight in making a garden for the Enchanted Tree at Loch Garten or going on a ‘Nest Quest’ to discover amazing wood ants.  The more adventurous can go on an all-day hill walk and find out how gaelic names reveal the hidden secrets of the past, or get involved with a family i-orienteering cycle event in Laggan.

You can join top forager Mark Williams on a foraging walk , or for those who like to get practical there are hands-on conservation experiences and you can also go behind the scenes in a landrover to see how an estate works.

The Cairngorms Nature Festival promises to be a weekend of fun for all the family, most events are totally free of charge, but some require booking in advance. There are four main ‘hubs’ at Ballater, Blair Atholl, Aviemore and Tomintoul, head to the Visitor Information Centres for more details.
