Temporary car park and viewpoint closures
Temporary car park and viewpoint closures
A couple of popular parking and viewpoint areas in the Cairngorms National Park are having to close for a temporary period while work is carried out as part of the Scottish Scenic Routes project.
The areas affected are the ‘car park’ south of the Devil’s Elbow, near Glenshee, which is used by walkers to access the nearby Munros of Glas Maol and Creag Leach, as well as the layby and viewpoint at Criaghaulkie Quarry, Tomintoul.
With the help of Mount Blair Community Association, Glenshee Tourist Association and Invercauld Estate, along with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and partners, the popular stopping off point on A93 south of Cairnwell is to be developed and improved. The car park will be landscaped, a new curved seat installed and the path toward the Munros will be stone pitched for a short section from the car park.
Work is scheduled to start on 25th July and finish around 26th August during which time the car park will be closed. An alternative lay-by is still available opposite on the north side of the road, and further north at the Devil’s Elbow.
At Criaghaulkie Quarry Viewpoint, work is scheduled to start on site on 25th July running until 9th September to upgrade and improve the viewpoint and car park as part of the Scenic Routes project. During this time, the lay-by and view point will be closed.
