Wildlife Tourism training day

It’s not too late to sign up for a place on the latest course being offered free of charge by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA).

A Demonstration Day on Wildlife Tourism – organised by the Land Based Business Training Project (LBBTP) – is being held on Friday 27 November at Alvie Estate, near Kincraig.

The course is aimed at anyone running or interested in wildlife tourism within the Cairngorms National Park and is designed to inspire and encourage land based businesses to diversify into wildlife tourism.

Among those giving talks at the event are wildlife photographer Pete Cairns on valuing the wildlife around us; Caroline Warburton of Wild Scotland on the opportunities wildlife tourism can present and Linzi Seivwright from the Deer Commission for Scotland on promoting deer as a tourism resource. Also on the agenda for the day are squirrels, birds and wildlife holidays.

Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the Stag Bothy on Alvie Estate where there will be more discussions about deer tourism in particular, what are the barriers to diversification into wildlife tourism and how they can be overcome.

Andy Rockall, the LBBTP manager said: “Wildlife tourism has always been popular but demand for this type of holiday activity is growing further so there is a real opportunity for land based businesses to grab a piece of this expanding market. This wide  ranging course is ideal for land based businesses thinking about diversification into wildlife tourism or already doing it but wants to get some more ideas”

The Demonstration Day on Wildlife Tourism is supported by the CNPA, New LEADER, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Rural Property and Business Association, Wild Scotland and hosted on Alvie Estate.
