Cairngorms Youth Action Team

Youth Action climate camp attendees walk through a woodland

Across the world, young people are raising their voices and demanding action on climate change. Here in the National Park, the Cairngorms Youth Action Team have teamed up to empower and inspire other young people in the National Park to take action on the issues affecting them.

Established in 2018, the youth group made up of young people aged 16 - 30 meets regularly in person and online, collaborating on projects, events and volunteering to ensure that young people’s voices are part of the conversation. Together, they are shaping the future of the National Park for the young people living, learning and working here.

In addition to building strong local ties, the Cairngorms Youth Action Team feel passionately about international connections and working closely with other young people across Europe and the world who share their ambitions. Having co-created the EUROPARC Youth Manifesto in 2018, this is a thread that continues as the team seeks opportunities to work with and learn from young people with different experiences and perspectives.

In addition to day to day activism, the Cairngorms Youth Action Team run, with support, the Youth Local Action Group (YLAG) fund through the Cairngorms Trust. Part of a UK wide network, the fund is run by young people for young people, and helps to fund a huge variety of youth lead projects and initiatives, from equipment to training, arts projects, events and community space improvements.
