The Cairngorms National Park Authority Planning Committee met today and approved an application, subject to conditions, for a segregated non-motorised user route from Aviemore to Carrbridge.  

The new route proposed by Transport Scotland, which is intended to be delivered as part of the A9 dualling development, is approximately nine kilometres long and three metres wide and will run between Aviemore in the south and Carrbridge in the north. 

The proposal for the new route improves accessibility and enables improved opportunities for recreation, leisure and responsible outdoor access, as well as making a positive contribution to the visitor experience. 

In addition, the proposal for the new route contributes to wider priorities outlined in the Scottish Government’s National Transport Strategy 2 and aligns with Cairngorms National Park Partnership Plan objectives by encouraging active travel, reducing inequalities between those with and without access to motorised vehicles and providing opportunities to improve health and wellbeing. 

Applications for the installation of raised decking, picnic tables and car parking spaces at Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore and the erection of cycle stores at housing plots in Newtonmore were also approved.
