Climate learning and education

Park Authority Ranger Polly and Cairngorms Connect Community Learning Officer Lotte show pupils from Grantown Grammar how to monitor peatland.

There are no easy solutions to the climate, biodiversity, health and wellbeing crises; young people need to be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to take on the challenge of finding and implementing changes that help everyone live with dignity and sustainably, within the limits of the planet’s natural resources.

This project works with schools across the Cairngorms National Park, engaging with young people to discuss the need for climate action and recognising the connections between biodiversity loss and its impacts on health and wellbeing.

  • School pupils visit Tormore Estate.

Through this project, young people and teachers are building confidence and agency to develop their own action plans, collaborate and implement sustainable projects and deliver activities that give real-world experiences around climate related issues that matter to them and their communities.

The project embeds a learning for sustainability framework and pathway for all schools in the National Park to encourage and execute lifelong pro-environmental behaviours.
